Research Interests

Using a modified endotracheal tube in a swine model Dr. Puyo’s research measures a variety of inflammatory markers such as cytokines and polymorphonuclear cells among others. His goal is to characterize the factors involved in the acute inflammation and cell activation while the trachea mucosa is exposed to a foreign body. A better understanding of tracheal inflammatory factors may yield useful information in the pathogenesis of Ventilator Associated Tracheitis (VAT) and Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP).
