From our Chairman Dr. Alex Evers:
The Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis strives to foster an academic culture in which clinical care, research and education are seamlessly integrated. We are organized in subspecialty-based divisions, all of which share a common research and educational platform. The department places a strong emphasis on innovative education and comprehensive, personalized clinical training. Our goal is to develop leaders in all aspects of anesthesiology, including clinicians, educators and investigators. Our ACGME-approved, subspecialty fellowship programs in critical care, cardiothoracic anesthesiology, pain management and pediatric anesthesiology are particular strengths of the department. Through its leadership, professionalism, commitment to service, academic productivity and clinical robustness, the Anesthesiology Department at Washington University commands the respect of colleagues in other specialties, of the hospital communities which we engage, and of the community which we serve.
The Department of Anesthesiology has three major missions:
- We are dedicated to providing state-of-the art patient care in the areas of preoperative evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia, post-operative critical care and pain management.
- We are committed to providing the highest quality of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. We provide a well-organized and comprehensive residency program for training both consultants in clinical anesthesiology and clinician-scientists in anesthesiology.
- We strive, through our basic science and clinical science programs, to make major contributions to the science of anesthesiology and to spearhead major advances in the clinical practice of anesthesiology.
